INTERVIEW | John Griffiths on the conflict between Israel and Iran

“This attack has no other objective than to eliminate the Iranian nuclear threat. Once that is achieved, the operation will end. It is not about conquest.”

“When one enters a conflict today, the first thing to achieve is air control, and Israel has announced that,” he stated.

The retired Army general, head of National Security and Defense Studies at AthenaLab, John Griffiths, addressed the crisis in the Middle East following Israel’s attack on Iran and the responses regarding Tel Aviv.

In this context, the expert mentioned that “we are undoubtedly facing a war,”, emphasizing that Israel carried out a direct attack against Iran, which justifies its defense.

“When one enters a conflict today, the first thing to achieve is air control, and Israel has announced that,”, he asserted.

Additionally, he explained that the main reason for the Israeli offensive is Iran’s advancement in nuclear capabilities. “Israel cannot afford to have its enemy neighboring states possess nuclear capability,” he said.

“This attack has no other objective than to eliminate the Iranian nuclear threat. Once that is achieved, the operation will end. It is not about conquest,” he insisted.

Regarding Israel’s defense leadership, Griffiths stated that “the percentage of interception is at such a level that, from any perspective, the defense has been successful, but we cannot think that there will not be certain missiles that reach their targets.”
