New Institutional Framework in Security

In a new episode of El Radar, hosted by Marcela Cubillos, Richard Kouyoumdjian, Vice President of AthenaLab and councilor for Las Condes, discusses the main issues that have marked the country’s agenda during the week. The program reviews the reorganization of the Ministry of Security following the departure of Trinidad Steinert and the arrival of Martín Arrau, amid cross-questions regarding the Government’s strategy against organized crime and the establishment of the new institutional framework in security. In parallel, the violent incident in San Miguel affecting former Constitutional Court President Iván Aróstica is discussed, which ended with a criminal deceased after an exchange of gunfire. Additionally, Marcela and Richard comment on the latest operations in the Macrozona Sur, particularly in Temucuicui, where the arrest of Jorge Huenchullan reopened the debate on territorial control, drug trafficking, and the coordination between the Prosecutor’s Office, police, and the Executive. The political repercussions of the deployment and the tensions regarding the Government’s role in such procedures are also analyzed.

Finally, the Border Shield Plan and the strengthening of migration and border control in the north of the country are analyzed, along with the international summit on May 28 in Santiago, where neighboring countries will coordinate actions against organized crime and transnational crimes.
