Paz Zárate on T13 Regarding Trump's Conviction

In a new edition of Conexión, Mónica Pérez and Ramón Ulloa spoke with international lawyer and senior researcher at AthenaLab, Paz Zárate, about the historic conviction of former U.S. President Donald Trump by a New York jury, finding the magnate guilty of the 34 charges brought against him in the “hush money” case.

Zárate began the conversation by stating, “This is the Trump soap opera that has many chapters, and this is one more, which seems important, but the truth is that in the tangled web of Donald Trump’s cases (…) this is the least important.” She also noted, “This case will continue its course, so we cannot guarantee that there will be a definitive sentence against Donald Trump.”

In this regard, the lawyer maintained that “for this case, as it involves the falsification of business records, the penalty is actually minimal. Typically, it results in a fine, and if he were to receive imprisonment, which is one year or one year and a third, he could serve it at home; it could be merely nighttime confinement, and they might not impose anything if he is appealing.” 

Regarding the presidential elections, the senior researcher at AthenaLab added, “The problem is that the Republican Party is tied up because they have already chosen Trump as their candidate.” Finally, she concluded by detailing, “Polls clearly indicate that he has the advantage to win and that the Constitution does not impose any limits (…) That is truly what is dangerous.”
