Jorge Guzmán on CNN: "The war is starting to take a toll on the average Russian citizen"

The PhD in history from Universidad Autónoma and researcher at Athena Lab commented on CNN Chile about the sociopolitical actions being exerted by various countries, organizations, and companies on Russia following the attack and invasion of Ukraine. “I believe the international scenario for the Putin government is becoming more complicated than the initial Russian battle plan had considered,” he stated.

One week after the attack and invasion of Russia against Ukraine, the PhD in history from Universidad Autónoma and researcher at Athena Lab, Jorge Guzmán, noted that the situation is beginning to “take a toll” on the average Russian citizen.

In an interview with Noticias Express of CNN Chile, the specialist commented that, in his opinion, “the international scenario for the Putin government is becoming more complicated than I believe the initial Russian battle plan had considered.”

He added, “If you add to that the sanctions, among other sanctions, an air and maritime blockade, and the withdrawal of major Western companies operating in Russia, including some social media; this will have a direct impact on people.”

In this regard, Guzmán exemplified that “people can no longer travel outside of Russia, people can no longer shop online, people will no longer have the ability to use their Facebook pages -Meta is what it’s called in Russia-, etcetera.”

“In other words, the war is starting to take a toll on the average Russian citizen, because until now we observed that this was an initiative of the Russian government, of Putin and his closest circle, which consists of people who have been working with Putin for over 30 years. In other words, it is a sort of club of Toby that Putin has in his circle; and the military leadership consists of people who reached the top of the military-industrial apparatus in Russia during Putin’s government,” he concluded.
