Navy 24/7

La Tercera, Tuesday, May 21, 2019

This weekend, the Navy conducted a nighttime rescue of Verónica Blanco Errázuriz, who had been adrift on her windsurfing board for several hours in challenging sea conditions several miles off the coast in the Pichidangui area.

This was accomplished using a combat helicopter capable of nighttime operations and a highly trained crew. This exemplifies versatility and is a very fitting way to pay tribute to Prat, Condell, and their crews.

It is a risky act that follows the example and legacy of Cochrane, but it was possible because the equipment capable of nighttime operation was available at that moment, which is not always the case.

We must ensure that the Navy and its maritime territory management have enough helicopters capable of conducting rescues 24/7 anywhere in the waters of Chile.
