AthenaLab participates in an international program on security and defense in Taiwan

The Head of Security and Defense Research at AthenaLab, Marcelo Masalleras, made a professional visit to the Republic of China (Taiwan) from June 21 to June 30, thanks to an invitation from the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Chile.

During his stay, he participated in the National Development Course offered by the National Defense University, which covered topics such as the history and modern culture of China, defense policy, foreign relations, the regional geopolitical situation, military affairs, and the strategic impact of the semiconductor industry.

Alongside a delegation of Chilean representatives and participants from ten other countries, the program included an audience with the President of Taiwan, as well as visits to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, military units, historical sites, and cultural spaces, both in Taipei and on the island of Penghu.

The visit allowed for a deeper understanding of Taiwan’s geopolitical and strategic reality, its security environment, and its importance for the balance of the Indo-Pacific. It also contributed to strengthening AthenaLab’s institutional and academic ties with relevant actors in the region.
